The portrait of Mariei is pretty special. It would be interesting to see other pictures from the shoot. Why this one frame? What was missing from the others? I find portraiture almost impossible.
I will try to make specific posts from some of my favorite photo sessions. Yes, I know portraiture can be so difficult, especially with the extreme levels of narcissism in society. Models are desperate for perfection, which of course, doesn't exist. I do my thing, and I learned not to care too much about that :). Thank you for reading.
That damn single almost perfect shot on a day or in a series. Always the moment of capture, at least for me. But then I'm not as methodical as you or anywhere close to Sally Mann. Apropos Marienbad - for me doubly eery because of where the film was shot. Exactly where I grew up and lived again later. Not in Marienbad. The castles of my youth. I have heard numerous concerts in them and took strolls in the parks. Played with the children in them. A summer evening with the Alban Berg quartet playing, it doesn't get much better. Always wanted to dance in one of them, almost did the last time I was there.....Clearly on the list if I have one at all.
Indeed - any form of discipline seems to weigh on my creativity, not necessarily in a bad way. As it happens, I just started reading Sontag's biography (Benjamin Moser) and at one point he says - she was so effortlessly beautiful, in a Athena, not Aphrodite kind of way. Perhaps that's what I have been looking for in most of my models - the warrior rather than the goddess. And it takes good skills to get that perfect shot. As for Marienbad, I remember we talked about your memories of the place there when we met in Berlin. Small world, eh?
Yes, and we should meet again in Munich and I could show you most of the locations. I'd also like to see the real Marienbad eventually, although I'd be prepared for a disappointment. The adopted places for the film are hard if not impossible to beat. Liebermanns villa remains a place of deep sadness for me, a reminder of what could have been. Ameliorated by the pleasure of having been there with you.
Nu pierzi nimic daca nu vezi "Parthenope" pana la capat.
Fantastic images - especially Lauren... and I love the topic. The Sally Mann quote is what I needed to hear! Excellent, Crina!
Can't go wrong with Sally! Thanks, Juliette.

We definitely should! And thanks for the Liebermann hint, I'll try to make a post about it.
